Male plastic surgery proceduresWhile the majority of plastic surgery patients are still women, recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveal that more men than ever are turning to cosmetic surgery. According to ASPS, more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in 2017.

Dr. Christopher Craft is the trusted choice for men seeking noticeable yet natural-looking plastic surgery results in Miami. Here, Dr. Craft looks at the most popular surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures for men.

Top Male Surgical Procedures

The latest report from ASPS revealed that men of all ages are undergoing cosmetic surgical procedures. Facial rejuvenation procedures like eyelid surgery are popular among older men who desire a refreshed and youthful appearance, while younger men are seeking body contouring procedures to sculpt their physique. Among the most popular sculpting procedures are liposuction and tummy tuck, which increased 23 percent and 12 percent, respectively, over the past five years. Male breast reduction, which addresses gynecomastia or enlarged male breast tissue, increased approximately 30 percent in that time.

The top cosmetic surgical procedures among men are:

  1. Rhinoplasty
  2. Eyelid surgery
  3. Liposuction
  4. Male breast reduction

Top Male Non-Surgical Procedures

Like women, many men are turning to minimally invasive procedures to tweak their appearance without incisions, scarring or extensive downtime. The latest report from ASPS revealed that 100,000 men underwent dermal filler treatment in 2017, a 99 percent increase since 2000, while Botox quadrupled in popularity. Botox and dermal fillers are especially popular among men in their 50s, 60s and older.

“Some people call it the ‘executive edge’ because a lot of patients report that they want to look younger to continue to compete in the workplace,” said Dr. Jeffrey Janis, President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “But I think, more often, men just want to look as young as they feel. That’s where a board-certified plastic surgeon can help.”

The top five male non-surgical cosmetic procedures are:

  1. Botox
  2. Laser hair removal
  3. Microdermabrasion
  4. Chemical peel
  5. Dermal fillers
