More teens getting breast augmentation surgery

More women under the age of 19 are getting breast augmentation surgery, according to data from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The ASAPS reports that 3,325 women 18-years-old or younger had augmentation procedures in 2013. That represents a 57-percent increase since 2000.

Dallas ABC News affiliate WFAA recently interviewed a young woman who decided to get breast implants after years of bemoaning her flat chest. She says she is thrilled with the results.

“I can feel comfortable being at the pool in a swimsuit and not worry about thinking I’m a 12-year-old boy,” Lori Rupp told the news outlet. “I work out, eat healthy and try to take care of myself, but there’s only so much you can do for other aspects of your body.”

Rupp is 25-years-old and had her operation several years ago, just after she graduated from college, but her motivation for getting a breast augmentation is likely similar to that of many younger girls.

Some women decide to get breast augmentation while they are still in high school or just after graduation. We told you how ‘Big Bang Theory’ star Kaley Cuoco recently told Cosmopolitan Magazine that she got breast implants when she was 18-years-old, calling it “the best thing I’ve ever done.”
