New silicone breast implant approved by FDA

Once you’ve decided to increase your bust size with breast implants, one of the first things you must determine is the type of implant you’re interested in. Today, saline and silicone implants are both viable possibilities, and there is an even greater selection within this category. Recently, for example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new silicone option, the Mentor MemoryShape Breast Implant, that falls among the “gummy bear” breast implants.

“Gummy bear” breast implants are silicone-based, and garnered their nickname because the gel they contain is form-stable, much like the candy itself, Health News Digest explains. Currently, there are three brands of this implant, which can also be specifically shaped to match the contour of the breast.

“Now women have three ‘shaped,’ ‘form-stable; choices, which offer new options previously unavailable in the U.S. The overwhelming response from board certified plastic surgeons has been positive,” the news outlet states.

Health News Digest notes that this type of breast implant is ideal for women interested in increasing the volume of their breasts while retaining their natural tear-drop shape.

There are many factors to consider if you’re interested in a breast augmentation. When it comes to deciding on details such as implant type and size, there is no greater resource than a board-certified Miami plastic surgeon. Stay tuned to learn more about the different types of implants, or contact Dr. Christopher Craft today to discuss your options and determine the best course of action for you.
