As we've talked about on this blog before, the rise in the popularity of selfies has greatly contributed to people seeking plastic surgery. But there is something else in the digital world that is sending people to Florida plastic surgeons, as well as doctors all across the country. That reason is the website BeautifulPeople.com, an elite and ultra-competitive dating website that only accepts those that the company's employees deem physically appealing enough.
Not only do applicants have to be aesthetically pleasing, they should also have professional photographs they can display that highlight their best features, whether that be a model physique, great sense of fashion or the perfect face. Members who are already apart of the website judge those who are trying to get in and rate you based on the perceived level of beauty. According to Life & Style Magazine, millions of people have applied, but there are currently only 800,000 members.
Since the sight began back in 2003, nearly 8 million people have been rejected from the website, with many applying multiple times. According to one member of the website, it is not uncommon to see the same person apply up to 20 different times. There is no limit to the amount of applications people can submit, as potential members will often come back with a part of their body altered in order to better meet the qualifications for membership.
"Sometimes it's just down to straightening your teeth, curbing your appetite, grooming yourself with a little more care and getting down to the gym," the website's managing director, Greg Hodge, told the Daily Mail.
