Will your workout routine affect your plastic surgery?

Previously on this blog, we mentioned that many plastic surgery patients have been shown to take herbal supplements, which they may not disclose to their surgeons before going under the knife. This can be dangerous since some treatments can affect blood flow and ultimately impair the healing process to a certain extent. Now, we’ll discuss another aspect of your lifestyle that is worth broaching with your plastic surgeon: your exercise routine.

Men and women in Miami love to look their best, spending hours at the gym to achieve that perfectly toned look. If you follow a strenuous workout regimen, make sure to tell your plastic surgeon, since this could influence the effectiveness of certain treatments. Recently,  the Australian news outlet the Sydney Morning Herald reported that some procedures, like Botox and and dermal fillers, may not last as long for people who maintain a routine of “excessive exercise,” based on anecdotal evidence from surgeons within the country. These specialists posited that too much physical exertion could “eat away” at these fillers and reduce the time between treatments.

An American plastic surgeon, however, had a different theory, arguing that people who exercise a lot naturally have less body fat, which leads to a more gaunt and drawn appearance around the face.

“When people excessively exercise they tend to look older, which can make them challenging as patients,” said Dr. Steven Dayan.

Undergoing plastic surgery can be transformative in many ways, but in order to truly reap the rewards of a breast augmentation or tummy tuck, you need to have realistic expectations about the results. That is why it is so important to select a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Christopher Craft, who can give you a comprehensive idea of what lies ahead.
