Butt implants surge as women embrace a different beauty ideal

Posted on March 6, 2014 by

As we recently reported, butt augmentation surgery was included in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ annual report for the first time last month. This recognition is a testament to how popular butt implants have become. In fact, an estimated 10,000 Brazilian butt lifts were performed in 2013 alone. The rise of sultry stars like Beyonce and Sofia Vergara have undoubtedly spurred this trend to a certain extent, but that isn’t the only reason that women are investing more in their behinds.

In a press release from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), plastic surgeon and ASAPS president-elect Dr. Michael Edwards commented on this trend and what it may say about beauty ideals around the world.

“I believe the dramatic increase in [butt augmentation surgery] is indicative of much larger global trends respecting body image, an ever-evolving concept of beauty and self-confidence. More women are pursuing these procedures as a means to achieve a standard of beauty they deem appropriate for themselves,” he explained.

Women across the country are learning to embrace and even accentuate their curves, moving away from the waif-like figures that are so prominent on runways and magazine covers. However, as butt augmentation rates rise, so will the number of opportunistic and underqualified individuals hoping to cash in on the demand. If you are considering a Brazilian butt lift, don’t settle for anything but the best plastic surgeons in Miami. Dr. Christopher Craft is a board-certified plastic surgeon with ample experience with this specific procedure. Contact our office today to learn more.
