Why Sophia Loren refused a nose job early in her career

Plastic surgery nowadays is becoming more commonplace, as the technology used for the procedures has advanced and made the results not only look better, but recovery time for patients shorter and more comfortable. This has not always been the case, which is why iconic actress Sophia Loren resisted calls to alter her face at the beginning of her career.

The Academy Award winner, now 80 years old, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her decision to shirk any plastic surgery, particularly when it came to her nose. While speaking with the news source, Loren recalled producers and agents – even her own late husband – saying that her facial features were “strong” and could benefit from surgical alteration.

“I always tried not to listen to these people,” Loren told the source. “They were saying that my nose was too long and my mouth was too big. It didn’t hurt me at all because when I believe in something, it’s like war. It’s a battle.”

Loren said the main reason she chose not to go under the knife was due to plastic surgery not being as reliable decades ago as it is today. She said that she feared the worst, and that something would go wrong during or after the surgery that would leave her face irreparably damaged. Had plastic surgery been as advanced as it is these days, the decision might not have been so simple.
